White Rabbit Theatre works with children in and around Winchester creating unique performances that the children are excited to be a part of and parents are keen to attend.
WRT looks to engage both children and adults alike in the process of making theatre and in the art form itself. This process begins in primary schools prodiminantly in and around Winchester. WRT will travel further afield and work with children of any age if required to do so.
Basic drama workshops form the start of the process, working on voice projection exercises, characterisation and working as a team. The latter mainly takes the form of script writing. By involving the children in the script writing process it makes them feel part of the production as a whole as well as creating a unique performance that the children can be proud of. WRT will ensure a script of high standard can be performed with the greatest amount of input as possible from the children. This process inspires the children and encourages them to be more creative.
WRT hopes to gain more recognition and kudos for the work of youth theatre and more specifically school productions that can become a ‘chore’ for parents to attend rather than a pleasure. This will be achieved by putting on a unique performance every time with the greatest input as possible from the children.
After a script is produced WRT takes on the part of director. Using projection and characterisation skills previously learnt in workshops, WRT directs the children in order to make the most out of their script. Everything else including costumes, lighting, set design and props are decided upon with the children to ensure their maximum involvement in as many aspects of theatre production as possible.
By creating productions in this manner WRT engages the children as performers and the parents as audience members. Parents attend school and youth productions in order to see their child perform. However WRT aims to expand on this so that parents are engaged in a unique and creative performance that also involves their children. WRT looks to expand out to adult workshops and performances and this process will help to establish both an audience and participants for this.
If the necessary permission is gained from the parents and schools included within the production process, the final performances will be filmed. The footage will then be edited at a high standard and placed onto DVD. The DVDs will be available for relatives of the children and the schools to buy.
After school/weekend workshops and performances are also available. This allows the child to learn all the skills from the workshop sessions but has the added bonus of not taking away any time from the schools working day.
